Day 281 Agenda

Posted on October 28, 2025October 28, 2025 Dr. Harmony By Dr. Harmony No Comments on Day 281 Agenda

Congress keeps handing the executive branch the keys while pretending it’s just “borrowing them for a weekend.

Loss: The Donald Trump administration urged the Supreme Court of the United States to let it move ahead with firing the head of the United States Copyright Office despite a lower court ruling that she could not be dismissed without cause.

Loss: A major legal commentary from the Brennan Center for Justice warns that this administration is aggressively eroding the separation of powers by asserting unchecked executive authority.

Loss: The sovereign rights of states were challenged yet again when the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals declined a rehearing in a case about federal control of the United States National Guard, effectively expanding presidential power to federalize state troops.

Win: California secured a federal court victory blocking the Donald Trump administration’s attempt to deploy the National Guard without state approval.

Win: A federal judge blocked key provisions of Trump’s executive order requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration—a win for voting rights and constitutional limits.

Win: League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) secured a sweeping federal court ruling striking down parts of an executive effort to impose documentary proof of citizenship for voter registration.

Featured Resister: Nick Brown

Meet Nick Brown, the Attorney General of Washington State, who has filed a supplemental amicus brief urging the Ninth Circuit to block federal overreach in the National Guard case. He’s stepping up to defend state sovereignty and the notion that the executive branch doesn’t get to absorb state powers at will.

Today’s To-Do List
  • Call your two U.S. Senators and tell them to oppose any legislation that removes “for-cause” protections for independent agency heads.
  • Find and share a virtual town hall about state-federal power dynamics happening tonight (e.g., via your local progressive caucus or state civil-rights group).
  • Boycott any media outlet that frames “strong executive = safe country” without mentioning the checks and balances being ripped away.
  • Share the article from the Brennan Center on social media with the tagline: “This is how democracy crumbles – quietly, one agency at a time.”
