Week 3 Executive Orders

Posted on February 10, 2025June 24, 2025 Dr. Harmony By Dr. Harmony No Comments on Week 3 Executive Orders

Another week, another batch of executive orders that range from “legally questionable” to “did he scribble this on a napkin at Mar-a-Lago?” Buckle up, because this week’s theme seems to be power grabs, culture wars, and general nonsense.

1. “America First, Again” – Trade War 2.0 (February 3, 2025)

What it does: Slaps new tariffs on imported goods, especially from China and Mexico, because apparently, we haven’t learned our lesson from the last time this tanked the economy.

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: Congress—not the president—controls taxes and tariffs. That’s, like, a whole thing in the Constitution.
  • Ethical: Guess who pays for tariffs? Not China. Not Mexico. Us. Hope you like your groceries and electronics getting even more expensive.
  • Constitutional: Unilateral economic decisions? That’s dictatorship-lite. Someone please take away his pen.
2. Bringing Back the “Muslim Ban” (February 3, 2025)

What it does: Reinstates travel bans on several majority-Muslim countries, claiming it’s for “national security.”

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: Courts already ruled against this nonsense the first time. What’s that definition of insanity again?
  • Ethical: It’s just straight-up discrimination with a new coat of paint.
  • Constitutional: First Amendment? Equal Protection Clause? Ever heard of them? Because this is violating both.
3. The “Election Integrity” Sham (February 4, 2025)

What it does: Orders federal agencies to “investigate voter fraud” and “enhance election security,” which is just code for suppressing votes.

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: The federal government has limited power over elections—states run their own. This is pure overreach.
  • Ethical: Voter fraud is not a real problem, but voter suppression is. This is a backdoor way to make voting harder.
  • Constitutional: Messing with voting rights is the big constitutional no-no. Expect lawsuits. A lot of them.
4. Federal Funding Cut for “Woke” Programs (February 5, 2025)

What it does: Cuts federal funding for programs that promote “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” because nothing says “freedom” like silencing viewpoints you don’t like.

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: Government funding can’t just be yanked on a whim—especially when programs are protected by civil rights laws.
  • Ethical: Apparently, diversity is the enemy now. What’s next? Banning books about Harriet Tubman?
  • Constitutional: First Amendment violations everywhere. The government can’t just decide certain perspectives are off-limits.
5. National Guard Takeover (February 6, 2025)

What it does: Expands presidential control over state National Guard units, making it easier to deploy them without governor approval.

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: Governors are supposed to be in charge of their own Guard units—this tramples on state authority.
  • Ethical: Federalizing state forces sounds dangerously close to authoritarianism. Just saying.
  • Constitutional: The 10th Amendment exists. States’ rights? That thing Republicans love—until they don’t?
6. The “American Values” Education Mandate (February 7, 2025)

What it does: Orders federal education grants to be tied to schools teaching “patriotic education” (aka: history, but make it propaganda).

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: The federal government doesn’t control school curricula. That’s a state/local thing.
  • Ethical: Whitewashing history is dangerous. Just ask… well, history.
  • Constitutional: The First Amendment protects academic freedom. This? Not so much.
7. The “Stop the Climate Panic” Order (February 8, 2025)

What it does: Rolls back a bunch of environmental protections, because apparently, clean air and water are overrated.

Why it’s a problem:

  • Legal: Many of these environmental regulations are tied to laws like the Clean Air Act. He can’t just erase them with a Sharpie.
  • Ethical: Hope you weren’t planning on breathing or drinking water any time soon.
  • Constitutional: Courts have ruled that presidents can’t just scrap environmental protections without proper processes. But hey, why start following the law now?
Final Thoughts

At this point, it’s clear that Trump’s executive order strategy is: 1) sign something that sounds strong, 2) ignore legal and constitutional barriers, 3) let someone else clean up the mess. Some of these are blatantly illegal, others will get challenged in court, and the rest? Well, they’re just bad policy.

Expect more chaos next week. Because of course.
