Welcome to Today’s Dumpster Fire—Grab a Drink
Oh hey, look at that—it’s another day in the United States of Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girlbossing Fascism! If you woke up thinking, Hmm, I wonder what fresh legal and ethical violations my government committed today?, well, babes, buckle up.
🚨 Executive Branch: Trump’s Ego Trip Continues
- “No Lawyers for You!” – Trump’s administration decided to blacklist major law firms (hi, Paul, Weiss) from working with the government because they have this annoying little habit of holding rich, powerful men accountable. The Constitution says we all have a right to legal representation, but I guess that doesn’t apply if you hurt Daddy Trump’s feelings.
- Trade Wars, Again? – He just dropped a 25% tariff on imported cars and parts, because what’s better than tanking the economy again? Even Canada is like, Dude, what the hell?
- National Security via Group Chat – Oh, you’re gonna love this one. Trump’s people used an unsecured Signal chat (which, whoops, had a journalist in it) to discuss military ops in Yemen. A judge had to step in and say, Hey guys, maybe don’t leak state secrets on an app your nephew also uses to plan parties?
- Rewriting History – Tя☭mp managed to sneak in an EO that guts the Smithsonian Institute and dissolves several sacred branches of this institution and forces rewriting of our history to be whitewashed and colonist focused. They also make sure the “executive branch” has someone directing this oversight. Read the nasty deets from RealsLawMoms here.
⚖️ Judicial Branch: The Bench of Bad Decisions
- SCOTUS Just Vibes Now – The Supreme Court basically said states can ignore federal regulations when it’s convenient for them. Oh, cool, so the law is just, like, a suggestion now? Great.
- Cops Still Above the Law? – A federal judge just upheld yet another law that makes it harder to sue police officers for misconduct. Because obviously we should all be accountable, but not the people with guns and arrest powers.
🗳️ Congress: Now in Extra Corrupt Flavor
- PBS and NPR on the Chopping Block – The House is moving forward with a bill to gut funding for public broadcasting. Because, yes, Sesame Street is obviously the real threat to democracy, not, say, an authoritarian government actively dismantling it.
- Insider Trading? We Call That Tuesday! – Members of Congress are still sitting on stocks in industries they regulate. How cute for them! And by cute, I mean wildly unethical and corrupt as hell.
