The Supreme Court opened its fall term this week with enough constitutional chaos to keep every civil rights lawyer awake until November.

First up: Chiles v. Salazar — Colorado’s ban on conversion therapy for minors is under attack. SCOTUS will decide whether a therapist’s “right to free speech” includes the right to psychologically torture queer kids. The state argues it’s regulating conduct, not speech.
