#140 Creating a Voting Plan

Posted on October 28, 2025March 3, 2026 Dr. Harmony By Dr. Harmony No Comments on #140 Creating a Voting Plan
Skill Level: Basic Civic Defense
Why This Matters

Authoritarian regimes thrive on chaos, confusion, and apathy. They count on voters being too busy, too tired, or too uninformed to show up. Creating a voting plan transforms “I’ll try to vote” into “I will vote, and here’s exactly how.” It’s a simple act with revolutionary power — because coordinated, reliable turnout can flip races, defend democracy, and protect communities under attack.

Example of Importance

In 2020, states with well-organized community voting plans — where groups helped members check registration, arrange transportation, and share ballot information — saw turnout jump by up to 12%. Meanwhile, regions without those networks saw widespread voter suppression succeed through misinformation and logistical obstacles. Every local election since has reinforced the same truth: voters who plan, win.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Confirm Your Registration
Visit nass.org/can-I-vote or your state election site to confirm your registration status, name, and address. If anything looks off, update it immediately. Deadlines vary by state, so do it early.

Step 2: Know Your Deadlines
Mark your calendar for registration deadlines, mail-in ballot request cutoffs, early voting start dates, and Election Day. Use your phone’s reminder app and share those dates with friends.

Step 3: Choose How You’ll Vote
Decide now whether you’ll vote early, by mail, or in person on Election Day. Each method has its pros and pitfalls — for example, mail-in ballots require proper signatures and postage, while in-person voting means planning around work and transit.

Step 4: Locate Your Polling Place or Drop Box
Find the exact location and hours of your polling place or ballot drop box. Visit it once before Election Day if possible. If you’re using public transit, check routes and backup options.

Step 5: Secure Identification and Materials
Check your state’s voter ID requirements. Have your ID ready, along with any supporting documents. Bring a printed sample ballot or notes if allowed.

Step 6: Arrange Your Schedule and Backup Plan
Block time on your calendar for voting, including travel and waiting time. Arrange transportation, childcare, or coverage at work if needed. Have a backup plan — who can drive you or watch the kids if something changes?

Step 7: Recruit Three Friends
Voter turnout spreads like wildfire when it’s personal. Ask at least three friends to make their own plans and check in with each other on Election Day.

Step 8: Share the Resistance Directory Voting Resources
Point others to ResistanceDirectory.com for organizations offering rides, translation help, voter protection hotlines, and election defense programs.

Final Thought from Resistance Kitty

Democracy doesn’t survive on good intentions — it survives on logistics. Authoritarians will try to trip us with new ID laws, disinformation, and fear. But every voter who makes a plan is a cog in the machine of resistance. Plan your vote, guard your ballot, and drag your friends to the polls if you have to.
